Harmony and inner peace through Vastu Shastra

Vastu Shastra (Vastu- physical environment and Shastra- Science ) is an ancient Indian science that lays down a set of architectural principles based on directional alignments.Vastu works to establish harmony between body, mind and the universe by creating living spaces that are in tune with the cosmic balance and are orientated according to the movement of the sun and moon, the electromagnetic field of the earth, the five elements and the astrological influence of the planets.

The basic premise of Vastu Shastra is that the human body is made up of five elements, Earth Water, Air, Fire and Space. Vastu seeks to find a balance between these elements in nature and in our bodies to maximise our energy as well as emotional, physical and spiritual well being.

Vastu Shastra is based on aligning buildings and our personal spaces inside them with the eight directions and sub-directions- North, Northeast, East, Southeast, South, Southwest, West, and Northwest. Each direction is associated with a God that embodies certain positive qualities and has its own significance. According to Vastu Shastra when our houses or office buildings are designed in line with these principles it maximizes our well being.

Vaastu design works on three basic principles:
Bhogadyam- the designed space must be practical and easy to use;
Sukha Darsham- it must be aesthetically pleasing;
Ramya- it should enhance the well being of the user.

Vastu Shastra offers some fascinating insight into our relationship with nature and the universe, to learn more about it we recommend reading:
