A trend of ‘digitalism’ in the European Parliament
In an effort to capture the digital trends in the European Parliament, a study has examined how Members of the European Parliament are using the internet to communicate with their voters, as well as how the same MEPs use the internet for their daily legislative work.
The study finds that MEPs go online for information and to support their decisions. MEPs seem to use the internet to communicate to voters but most of them do not use all the available tools quite yet. No doubt MEPs have come a long way since the last elections, but there is still some work to be done.
Most MEP’s seem to have integrated digital communications into their toolbox of tactics, but also realize that digital tools cannot replace traditional tools such as contact programs and media relations. Rather, they are complementary and render their activities more effective.
The results of the “European Parliament Digital Trends Survey” are published on a website that has been launched for the occasion: www.epdigitaltrends.eu
The webpage features the full report, MEP comments, the main results with statistics, and other information.
